Plains was named by its founder W. J. Luna for the broad open plains of this 
West Texas land.  Soon after its founding, settlers came and businesses were opened.

1906 - People came to the small town of Plains and the population began to grow

1908 - Soon homes were added and those newfangled automobiles arrived.


Courthouses

In 1908 a courthouse was built.  
Plains was now the County Seat of Yoakum County
